The capital of Nigeria, Lagos, is home to a remarkable yet starkly contrasting community known as Makoko - a floating slum that vividly embodies both the resilience of the human spirit and the dire consequences of urban poverty. Beneath the surface of Makoko's waterborne vibrancy lies a harsher truth: the waters, a vital life source, are tainted with sewage and pollution. This environmental crisis is a daily battle for the residents, who face the constant threat of waterborne diseases. The lack of adequate sanitation facilities means that much of the waste and sewage from the densely populated settlement ends up directly in the lagoon, compounding the challenges of maintaining a healthy living environment. Poverty in Makoko is pervasive and profound. Yet amidst these hardships, the spirit of Makoko endures, presenting a deep and complex life narrative in one of Africa's most dynamic urban landscapes. Let us journey to Makoko, and explore how people live in the largest floating slum in the world.

After years behind bars, Reverend Armstrong returns to his old neighborhood a changed man, determined to rebuild his late father’s church and bring hope to a community drowning in crime.

But the streets remember who he used to be.

Surrounded by drugs, gangs, and temptation, Armstrong takes a troubled young man under his wing, trying to pull him back from a life of violence. At the same time, he must battle his own past — a history of rage that could destroy everything he’s trying to protect.

Faith is his weapon.
Discipline is his shield.
But one wrong move could send him back to the life he escaped.

💥 A powerful urban drama about redemption, faith, and the fight to stay righteous in a broken world.

Motivation has always been the leading message of Jeezy's career and he's never veered off the path. The Atlanta superstar stayed consistent with his Tiny Desk, focusing on the early chapters of his career and creating a story arc in between songs. "I was able to connect with my people and my culture because we spoke the same language," he explained before playing "Go Crazy." "I wanted to inspire and give people the blueprint, people who wanted more for themselves."

Jay "Jeezy" Jenkins' music could easily be taken at face value given the number of hits he's racked up over his two-decade career, but he made his target audience and intention clear through the titles of his Thug Motivation albums. He's taken his mission far beyond music, excelling as an investor and more recently an author. His memoir, Adversity for Sale: Ya Gotta Believe, made it to the New York Times bestseller list.

The Snowman enlisted Tiny Desk vet and bassist D. Hodge to assemble a band to breathe new life into selections from his catalog. The string section brought opulence to these gritty street anthems and features two familiar faces: viola player Lelia-Michelle Walker and NPR's own Ashley Pointer on violin. Jeezy dedicated "Everythang" from TM:103 Hustlerz Ambition to Pointer and showed plenty of love to the group of Howard University students in the crowd. This is Black History at its finest.
